RIVELAZIONE A RAGGI-X E SEMICONDUTTORI ORGANICI

TeamFraboniGUna sottile pellicola di materiale organico che può trasformarsi in un potente rivelatore di raggi X. Un gruppo di ricerca coordinato da studiosi dell’Università di Bologna e della Sezione INFN Bologna ha individuato alcune caratteristiche grazie alle quali è possibile massimizzare le capacità di questa tecnologia. Lo studio, pubblicato su Nature Communications, mostra come sia possibile migliorare sia il limite di rivelazione sia la sensibilità di questa innovativa tecnologia, che ha potenzialità di applicazione in diversi campi, dalla diagnostica medica alla sicurezza pubblica, dalle applicazioni spaziali alla preservazione del patrimonio culturale e al monitoraggio ambientale.

“I risultati che abbiamo ottenuto” sottolinea Beatrice Fraboni, del Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia dell’Università di Bologna e della Sezione INFN di Bologna, che ha coordinato lo studio “costituiscono un passo cruciale nella comprensione dei parametri e dei processi fisici che controllano la rivelazione di raggi X da parte di semiconduttori organici a film sottile (poche centinaia di nanometri): una conoscenza fondamentale per l’implementazione efficace di rivelatori di radiazione ionizzante basati su tali materiali per applicazioni nella vita reale”.
