Galileo science and innovation festival
From 2 to 5 May – Padua
From 2 to 5 May, Padua hosts the 'Galileo' science and innovation festival, which this year features an event on gravitational waves with Antonio Zoccoli, President of INFN, among the speakers.
3 MAY, 9 p.m.
Palazzo Moroni, Sala Paladin – Padua
The Gravitational Waves Frontier
With Roberto Ragazzoni, President of INAF, Marco Tavani, Professor of Space Physics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, former President of INAF, and Antonio Zoccoli, President of INFN
Conducted by Giovanni Caprara, essayist and scientific columnist Corriere della Sera, scientific director Galileo Festival
Italy proposes to build the new European station for listening to gravitational waves in Sardinia. The challenge is with Holland, and it is a great challenge because the birth of the new centre will become an international pole of attraction for scientists, similar to the Cern in Geneva. The Italian government supports the venture, and Italian physicists and astrophysicists through the National Institute of Nuclear Physics INFN and the Italian Institute of Astrophysics INAF, thanks to their experience with the Virgo station that has been active for years near Pisa, have the authority and experience to lead the birth of the new European centre.
Salone Internazionale del Libro
From 9 to 13 May, Lingotto Fiere – Turin
From 9 to 13 May, the eagerly awaited international event dedicated to the world of publishing, the Salone Internazionale del Libro, returns to the Lingotto Fiere premises. In this setting, the INFN will present its publishing initiatives and some educational and didactic projects, in Hall 2, Stand L17. The latest issue of the magazine Asimmetrie, on the theme of 'Matter', will be presented at the stand. Researchers will tell visitors about particle physics with small experiments and demonstrations. In particular, the 2025 school calendar of the ScienzaPerTuttiproject will be presented to the public and teachers.
The INFN's participation in the Book Fair is completed by two other activities. The Asimov Prize for science publishing will announce the winning book of the 2023-2024 edition of the Prize during an event on 9 May at 1.15 pm in the Sala Azzurra. The event will be attended by the schools and the author or author who will win the Prize this year. Finally, in the new Pavilion 4 for the entire duration of the Exhibition, there will be HEPscape! the escape room on elementary particle physics, an adventure into the physics of CERN's Large Hadron Collider, to discover how the world's largest particle accelerator works and what it is looking for.
Pint of Science
13-14-15 May, throghout Italy
Researchers tell the latest news from the world of science over a beer: Pint of Science is back, an initiative that brings science to pubs and bars. Many researchers from INFN, a gold sponsor of the initiative for years, will be involved in the evenings of science in 19 cities across Italy.
PLAY Modena
From 17 to 19 May, ModenaFiere and in town
Learn by playing: the INFN will also be present in Modena for the entire duration of the festival with a stand at the fair, full of experiments and games to discover particle physics. In addition to the games on the stand, the INFN will be offering activities for high schools, such as ‘Research Simulator’ and ‘The Gran Sasso Videogame’, and primary schools, ‘Everyday Science’ and ‘Quantum Duck’. In addition, on 17 May from 9.30 a.m., there will be a multi-table role-playing game, organised by INFN and the Parents' Association, which will host around 150 boys and girls.
