MUON RADIOGRAPHY IN THE GALLERIA BORBONICA

Meg 2016Muon radiographies to be applied to geophysical prospecting: with this goal in the Galleria Borbonica in Naples a particle detector has been installed. The project, that inaugurates its activities in March the 8th, is a collaboration between the high-tech district STRESS and the INFN Division of Naples, and with the involvement of TECNO-IN spa company and the support of the Associazione Borbonica Sotterranea.

A public conference on March 11th with Paola Puppo, from INFN and VIRGO Collaboration, organized inside the SAPERmercato of Frascati, for the European Research Night 2016, try to find an answer.

sito renzi giannini ferroniToday the italian prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Stefania Giannini, who leads Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), have visited INFN's Gran Sasso National Laboratories. 

 

GIANPAOLO BELLINI AWARDED WITH THE "BRUNO PONTECORVO" PRIZE 2016

bellini dubnaThe prestigious International Prize "Bruno Pontecorvo" 2016 was awarded to the Italian physicist Gianpaolo Bellini with the following motivations: “…for his outstanding contributions to the development of low-energy neutrino detection methods, their realization in the Borexino detector, and the important solar and geo-neutrino results obtained in this experiment". The Yury members were Samoil Bilenky, Luciano Maiani, Arthur McDonald (Nobel Prize 2015), Alexander Olshevskiy (chair), Yoichiro Suzuki.

 

LISA PATHFINDER'S SMALL CUBES FLOAT FREE

lisa pathfinder 2016LISA Pathfinder has released its two small cubes of gold and platinum, beginning its scientific mission. Realized by ESA - with the fundamental contribution of ASI, and a collaboration of  INFN and Trento University - its goal is to demonstrate the technological feasibility of the detection of gravitational waves into the space.
